Obituary of Bernadine Mary Snyder

    Bernadine Mary (Caffrey) (Zigtema) Snyder, the daughter of Gabe and Margaret (Sather) Caffrey, was born on October 9, 1925 in Worthington, Minnesota. She received her early education at the St. Joseph’s Cathedral Schools in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She later graduated from the College of St. Catherine’s Department of Nursing in St. Paul, Minnesota.

    Throughout her nursing career, Bernadine worked in hospitals in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Ogden, Utah, and Orange City, Iowa. She was the O’Brien County Public Health Nurse from 1972-1982, then worked as the Director of Nurses at the Sheldon Nursing Home from 1982-1987.

    Bernadine was married to Sam Zigtema from 1950-1967. She was married to Don Snyder from 1975-1995.

    Survivors include a sister, Millie (Don) Demers of Spirit Lake, Iowa; one brother, Roy Caffrey of Irvine, California; a sister-in-law, Barbara Caffrey of Brandon, South Dakota; four stepchildren and their families; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Sam and Don; and a brother, Frank Caffrey.
