This is my uncle, Sam Zigtema, and his wife, Bernadine. Sam was my mother’s brother. I remember how welcome she made everyone feel at their home in Orange City when I was a boy. I enjoyed my visit with her last Thanksgiving with my brother, Bob. Randy Roghair
My sympathy to those who knew Aunt Berd. Sam and Berd Zigtema were my aunt and uncle. Aunt Berd always welcomed us into their home. Her laugh and smile are my best memories of her - and she always baked a cake when she knew we were on our way. One summer our family drove far north into Canada and Uncle Sam certainly knew how to maneuver that little boat in his wheelchair. Nothing stopped him, and Aunt Berd encouraged his variety of skills. Every Christmas, she created a tree decoration for each niece and nephew, with a silver dollar attached. I still have those silver dollars. Aunt Berd was a special lady and knew how to live the role of 'aunt.'
