Obituary of Bill Dummett
Please share a memory of Bill to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bill E. Dummett transcended from this life to the next on April 13, 2015. His soul lives on.
Bill was born on February 7, 1933 in Sanborn, Iowa. He received his education at Sanborn, graduating from Sanborn High School in 1951, and married his high school sweetheart, Ardis Riser, on September 19 of the same year.
He joined the United States Navy in 1952 and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge, Bill returned to Sanborn and was employed as a farm hand. In 1956, he began working at Farmers Co-op Oil Company as their tank wagon salesman, and continued there for the next 27 years. In 1983, he became District Sales Manager for the Wilson Seed Company. He held this position until his retirement.
Bill was a devoted member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church of Sanborn where he served on the Building Committee, acted as a trustee and lay leader, and held the office of Sunday School Superintendent.
Camping, fishing and sports were among Bill's favorite pastimes, but he dearly treasured the time spent with his family. He was a loving husband and father; he especially enjoyed his 20 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and most recently, his great-great-grandson.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Ardis, children: Bob (Vicki) Dummett of Yankton, South Dakota, Michael (Pam) Dummett of Sanborn, Iowa, Russell Dummett of Greeley, Colorado, David (Patti) Dummett of Missoula, Montana, and Tobi Ann Leget of Sanborn, Iowa.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Verne and Lela Dummett, his brother, Dean Raymond, father and mother-n-law, Jack and Elsie (Wink) Riser, and one grandson, Kyle Dummett.
