Blayne Graham Johnson, 74, of Hartley, Iowa, died December 2, 2014 at Doughterty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Blayne was born June 2, 1940, to Wayne M. and Blanche L. (Graham) Johnson in Lake Park, Iowa. He attended Ocheyedan Community School, graduating in 1958, and attended the University of Iowa and Morningside College.
Blayne and Jean (Daws) Johnson were married December 30, 1961 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Worthington, Minnesota. Two children were born of their marriage: Wayne E. Johnson and Jeff M. Johnson. Blayne was a man of strong faith in the Lord and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hartley, Iowa.
Family was of utmost importance to Blayne. He showed his children and grandchildren the importance of hard work, the value of serving others, and the joy of laughter. Most importantly, Blayne showed them how to love unconditionally, and to enjoy life. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and horseman, as well as a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.
Grateful for having shared Blayne’s life are his mother, Blanche Johnson Benson; and wife, Jean, both of Hartley, Iowa; as well as his sister, Ronna (Dave) Ransberger of Chandler, Arizona; and his sons, Wayne (Sandy) of Johnston, Iowa and Jeff (Nancy) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was the loving grandfather of Jessica A. Johnson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Keagan B. (Kayla) Johnson of Windsor Heights, Iowa, Riley G. and Sam M. Johnson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and step-grandfather to Alexis, Morgan, Spencer, and Carter Bumby of Columbia, Missouri.
Blayne was preceded in death by his father, Wayne M. Johnson; his maternal grandparents, Raleigh (Mike) and Lola Graham; as well as his paternal grandparents, Lester and Ethel Johnson.
