Obituary of Norman Harold Lux

Please share a memory of Norman to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Norman Harold Lux was born on December 19, 1939, in Hartley, Iowa; the oldest of two sons of Harold ‟Butch” and Edith (Olhausen) Lux. He attended Hartley schools, graduating in 1958.

In 1962, Norman was united in marriage to Myrna Jespersen; they became the parents of Robin, Neil, Nicole, and Ryan. Norman and Myrna first lived in an apartment in Hartley before settling on the family farm two miles north of town. They lived here from 1970 until 2018 before moving into the town of Hartley. Norman farmed for 59 years of his life, raising cattle, pigs, chickens and turkeys.  He was a man whose life was defined by hard work, love for farming, and an unwavering devotion to his family.

Norman was a lifelong member of Trinity United Church of Christ, where he had served on the consistory. He also sat on the Hartley School Board from 1975 to 1977. He was an active member of the Lions Club for 45 years, most recently fulfilling the role of treasurer. He was a huge fan of the HMS Hawks, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Iowa State Cyclones…but most of all, he loved any team his grandkids were playing on, and proudly supported them at any and every activity they participated in.

Norman was a “one of a kind” man. Everyone who knew Norm has a memory of him - and probably not one of them being negative. They can laugh when they talk about him as he always made an impression on everyone he met. He was one of the hardest working men you would ever meet, proud of the fact he raised his kids “right”, and the day wasn’t finished until the work was done. There are many sayings people will remember when they think of Norm - and they will always be walking away laughing and shaking their heads.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Myrna of Hartley, Iowa; children: Robin (Al) Sindt and children: Lucas and Emily of Everly, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Lori Lux of Hartley, Iowa; Nicole (Kelly) Roder and children: Eric (Keely), Jackson, Alic, and Preston; and great-grandson, Scottie all of Rock Valley, Iowa, Ryan (Kimberly) Lux and children: Owen, Ian, Finley, and Mara of Norwalk, Iowa.

Norm was preceded in death by his son, Neil Lux; son-in-law, Tony Salazar; parents, Harold and Edith Lux; brother, Orlan Lux; and parents-in-law, Harry and Irene Jespersen.

Norm will be dearly missed by all, but mostly by his family, as he was the rock.
