It's hard to encapsulate a friendship of 55 years. Barb and Dave were strongly engaged in community and church life in Orange City. We had our babies together and formed a lasting bond. Barb loved to talk and loved to laugh. She was really good at both of those things. It was part of her charm.
So funny to remember trying to meet for lunch at the Lakes. Barb learned our restaurant of choice was closed and wanted to let us know of a different place. Carl and I were trying to spot their vehicle and were annoyed when my cell phone kept ringing. I finally answered. We laughed about it all during lunch.
Barb's strong faith was an important part of who she was, and it served her well these last months. We had a lovely conversation a few days before Christmas. I didn't know I was saying goodbye - for now.
Sympathy to Dave, Stuart, Brent, Ryan and families. We'll all miss her.

Jerry and I want to extend our sympathy to Dave and the family members. Barb warmly welcomed us into the community, neighborhood, and livelihood of veterinary medicine. Barb advised us along the way and her support was always felt. She spoke highly of her family and her life reflected her faith, service, and commitment to family and community. Our prayers for comfort and peace! Jerry and Sheila

So sorry to hear of your loss. I will always remember the kindness Barb showed when Mike and I moved to Hartley. Our furniture was not to arrive until a day later so we were planning on camping on the floor. Barb told the church that she would not have a pregnant woman lying on the floor when we could stay with them!
I can remember another time when i spoke my mind a little too much. It was one of those moments that right after I said it, I regretted it, but your mom stood up for me. Later when I told her thank you and that I felt bad, she told me never to feel bad for speaking my mind. She continued to show her Christian kindness throughout our time in Hartley. She was a great lady and will be truly missed.

I didn't know your mom was born in Ames, Stu and Brent, and I didn't know you two were born in Orange City (just a hop, skip, and a jump from Le Mars). Best wishes on adjusting to missing her.

My husband & I had the pleasure of getting to know Barb (& Dave) as their son, Stuart, is married to my niece, Leslie. We lived in Spencer so would often bump into them when they were in town shopping. We always found plenty to talk about and enjoyed Barb’s sense of humor. Barb was never without a pleasant smile that lit up her whole face. So pretty. We had in common Home Economics teaching degrees. She was a very special lady. Since she & Dave raised 3 wonderful boys, I think Barb was especially happy to have another female when Leslie joined their family. Dewey & I send our most heartfelt sympathy to Dave and family.

Our family has fond memories of Barb. We were recipients of her gracious hospitality when we stayed with her and David the night before the moving van brought our belongings to Hartley. She and David were always generous with us at Christmas too.

I haven't seen Barb in some time. She would enjoy giving (I enjoyed receiving) me a hard time about sitting in different spots at Church. She would say Where's Waldo...I mean Darla...lol. Rest in peace Barb!

Deepest sympathy to Barb's family. She had such a great sense of humor as she always mentioned us sitting in the same seat at church as her and Dave always sat in their same area! Very pleasant to visit with them at fellowship meals. May she rest in peace in the hands of our Lord. Leroy and Darlene Peters

I am blessed to have had Barb in my life. I looked forward to our grandchildren events, because Barb was always there early and saving a good seat for me. We often agreed that our Christenson grandchildren were special and worth driving a long distance to watch, whether it was a sporting or musical event. I will always treasure our time traveling to Houston to watch Gage graduate from Rice. Barb helped turn changes ( like sitting for a long time in the sun on bleachers to wait for the graduates) into adventures to remember. God wrap you all in His arms of comfort during this sad time.
