Obituary of Naoma Yavonne Schoof

Please share a memory of Naoma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Naoma Yavonne Schoof, daughter of Peter and Esther (Kraft) Nagel, was born November 2, 1935, in Primghar, Iowa. She grew up in Hartley, Iowa where she received her education, graduating from Hartley High School.

On Sunday, June 13, 1954, Naoma became the bride of Leonard Schoof at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley. The new couple began their life together in Paullina, Iowa, before moving to Le Mars, Iowa, then Spencer, Iowa for a short time; eventually returning to Paullina where they were engaged in farming. Five children would complete their family: Sharon, Sandy, Susan, Steven, and Sherry. Along with taking care of her growing family and helping Leonard on the farm, Naoma was also employed at a local poultry facility. She worked there until her retirement at the age of 75.

Traveling had always been a special enjoyment for Naoma, so she took part in several bus tours over the years, seeing new things and making new acquaintances. She volunteered with Hospice, the Prairie View Auxiliary, and helped make quilts with the ladies’ group at St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was a member. She loved to listen to Polka music and rarely missed a NASCAR race on TV. While her days were usually kept full, she was never too busy to spend time with her children, grandkids or dear friends.

On Thursday, August 3, 2023, Naoma passed from this life at the age of 87 years, and is now reunited with loved ones who have gone before: her husband, Leonard; daughter, Sharon Fritzsche; sons-in-law: Mark Langholz and David Rohwer; her parents, Peter and Esther Nagel; and her sister, Luella Frick; and brother, Elmer Nagel.

Keeping her memory close at heart are her children and their families: Sherry (Lyle) Tifft of Sanborn, Iowa, Montana (Mark) Stanton, Brooklyn, Colt and Harper of Urbandale, Iowa, Savanna (Don) Trotter, Brevyn of Altoona, Iowa - Susan Langholz of Spencer, Iowa, Tammy (Chris) Dexter, Sabastian of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Travis (Leah) Langholz of Spencer, Iowa - Sandy Rohwer of Marcus, Iowa, Ryan (Katie) Rohwer, Alex, Isla of Fletcher, North Carolina - Steven (Cheryl) Schoof of Ankeny, Iowa, Jessica (Shane) Olson of Altoona, Iowa – Heather Fritzsche of Spencer, Iowa, Joshua (Kristal) Fritzsche, Brianna, Katelyn of New Haven, Indiana; sisters: Lois (Larry) Klatt of Hartley, Iowa, Dalorus Gaudian of Hartley, Iowa, Nancy Nagel of Hartley, Iowa; sister-in-law, Ruth Groves of Weslaco, Texas; other relatives and many friends.
