Barney was such a great guy. I remember talking to him about our favorite team: Boston Celtics. He never got tired of talking about them.

Barney was my host dad, my American dad during my year in the States and ever since.
He was the quiet one, always available when I needed help.
He was the gentle one, patiently helping me adapt to a new environnement.
He was the teasing one when I took something too seriously.
He took me to all the games, no matter what the weather was. His love for his wife and family was evident. His engagement for his community a matter of fact. I’m so glad he could come to France a few years back.
All my thoughts and my love go to Lindy Buren and her family. Rest in peace Barney

Where do I even begin....I am Barney's Sister in Law and boy the Stowells/Burens make up a pretty good "Chief" Kingdom.
Ha Ha Ha I am not earning any points from Heaven right now, as we all know 'ole Barn was an avid "Chicago Bears" fan. I never could figure out why!?? (winning or losing... losing... losing) I would call him during a Bears football game to let him know that I could hear him yelling (and PERHAPS swearing) all the way to Gilbert. He enjoyed his sports for sure and I loved that he was an IOWA STATE CYCLONE FAN. (only "clone fan" in Sanborn)
Barney was definitely the "life of any party." His jokes were never ending and when he told one it just seamlessly and fluently came out of his mouth. Most of the time he patiently waited for your reaction and then shared in your laughter. I am sure his "sense of humor" probably got him IN AND OUT of a lot of trouble over the years.
Another fond memory.... Every summer I would meet my high school girlfriends up at the Lakes for a weekend of fun. Well, Lindy and Barney graciously volunteered to take care of the Stowell kids, Danielle and Devin, for the weekend if Rick had to work. They LOVED going to visit Aunt Lindy and Uncle Barney because they had "YES DAY" FOR 3 DAYS! The Burens would let them do ANYTHING they wanted to do! Rick and I had to do some "retraining" of rules once we arrived home. ha ha ha
Barney was selfless and altruistic. He always put others first, was compassionate/caring, and concerned about the well being of others. The people of Sanborn and every single neighbor in "South Paradise" knew Barney because he was always looking for ways to help others in need. Even the simplest of acts.... He was a loving stepdad and a loyal friend to all!
Lindy, you know I am always here for you. DAY OR NIGHT! (neither of us sleep) May the sorrow you feel in your heart be lightened by the love of family and friends that surround you. HUGS AND PRAYERS to you, your family, and Jed.
It is still so surreal for me to think that my Brother in Law "gained his Angel wings" on May 30th and is gone from my sight. I miss him in so many ways already, but I will treasure/cherish all the "good 'ole memories" we shared. I know he is up in Heaven having the "time of his life" with God and all the family members/friends who have gone before him. The upside part of all this is Barney will now have a front row seat to ANY game he chooses to attend. FLY HIGH BROTHER BARN and until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of His hands! Love you Barney!
Your Sister in Law, Peg.

So sorry to hear of Barney's passing. Barney and I go way back to high school. We enjoyed pheasant and duck hunting, Snow days were spent playing war board games at Barney's. Lots of good times in Barney's car. We enjoyed the Muscular Dystrophy auctions with both of you. Barney was a great friend and checked on Kris in Spencer when I was in Basic Training. He had such a great sense of humor and will be missed by many. Praying for you and your family. Phil and Kris Schnurr

Uncle Barney I will forever miss your smile and your jokes
I remember going into the bowling alley in Sanborn and I’d brag that I was the niece of lindy and Barney Buren . I remember being at pizza ranch and I’d have you play dress up and I’d make you wear the crown, silly uncle Barney . I remember you selling me your Chevy Lumina when you could have sold it to anyone els . I took very good care of the car until we had to get a bigger car once we had kids . I am very sorry I have not been over since my mom’s funeral that was not right of me , I didn’t realize I took this long to heal and I didn’t realize how much the kids have kept me busy . I want to say that I know I seamed very doubtful when you and family helped with my moms stuff but I am and was very grateful and want to say again thank you . I am sad to know your gone , I remember the first thing my mom said when she found out she had cancer , she said Kari if uncle Barney ever looses Lindy he will be lost please go and be with him and keep the coffee going . Now it’s the opposite you’re gone and aunt lindy is sad , I have not been over there to keep the coffee going please forgive me I hope to make it over there later or tomorrow. I have never been a sports fan but I will cheer on the Chicago Bears ! I hope your enjoying yourself please say hi to my mom oh and don’t forget to dance with her just like you did at her wedding and keep watching over all the family and friends especially Aunt Lindy , I love you very much love Kari: PS the kids will remember the time you aunt lindy came to their birthday parties because grandma Ginger was too sick from cancer to come . I am not sure if Mallory will remember being held for 45 mins and she just sat in your lap looking at you but I will . Harrison Will remember spending time with you at Christmas and how he came home with Darth Vador from Star Wars. Allister says rest easy and he will miss your serious jokes . Love the Sindt family
