Dallis Faye Solsma was born December 21, 1949 in Hull, IA, the daughter of Dick and Cornelia Solsma. She spent her youth on a farm near Sanborn, Iowa and received her education there as well.
Following graduation from high school, Dallis attended, and graduated from, Pillsbury Baptist Bible College at Owatonna, MN, Mankato State College at Mankato, MN, and Bob Jones University at Greenville, SC. Her passion was teaching – 14 years at Grace Baptist School, Petersburg, VA, 21 years at Morningside Christian School/Siouxland Christian School, Sioux City, IA, and one year in Suriname, South America.
After retirement, Dallis volunteered at a school for missionary children and assisted with homeschooling former student’s children in their countries of ministry.
Along with her natural gift of education, Dallis also had a “green thumb”. She thoroughly enjoyed many relaxing hours in her flower gardens, tending to the all the different varieties of blooming greenery as well as her pristine lawn; the plants in the house were just as spectacular.
Fabric and textiles was another of Dallis’ interests. She worked for several years at Hobby Lobby in the office and on the floor, mainly in the needlework-crafts and fabric-sewing departments, all things she loved to do and was very adept at. She found it rewarding to help customers and answer their questions, teaching them new techniques and the “how-to” for many different products. Her helpful, friendly demeanor gained her many new friends and acquaintances.
On Thursday, September 9, 2021, Dallis passed from this life at Kingsley Specialty Care Center in Kingsley, IA; she was 71 years of age.
Keeping her memory close at heart are her sister and husband, Correne and Paul Van Dyke of Broken Bow, OK; a nephew, Tom Van Dyke of Tulsa, OK; many wonderful cousins; other relatives and a host of dear friends.
Loved ones who have gone before include her parents, Dick and Cornelia Solsma; a brother, Jake; and two sisters: Caroline and Darlene.
A Memorial Service for Dallis will be held at a later date.
