Obituary of Bonnie Jean Damman

Please share a memory of Bonnie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Bonnie Jean Damman was born July 30, 1935 in Sheldon, Iowa, to Christian W. F. and Clara Helen (Marquardt) Brandt. She spent her youth in the Sanborn area where she attended elementary school, and continued her education at Mitchell, South Dakota. She graduated in 1953 from Sheldon Public School at Sheldon, Iowa.

Following her high school graduation, Bonnie attended the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa, earning her Registered Nursing Degree in 1956. After passing her Board Exams, she worked as a Registered Nurse for Community Memorial Hospital in Sheldon, Dr. Cornelius Maris and Dr. Lloyd Sweeney in Sanborn, Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn, and for O’Brien County Public Health.  She was also a Parish Nurse at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sanborn.

On November 30, 1963, Bonnie was united in marriage to Glenn Henry Damman at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sanborn. To this union, three children were born: David, Daryl, and Renae. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

As a young girl, Bonnie Jean loved to twirl baton…and she was very good at it. While she was attending nurses training, she would sometimes twirl her baton outside the hospital for the patients’ entertainment. Later on, she also instructed twirling for many years.

Bonnie was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sanborn where she had been baptized as an infant. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell, South Dakota on June 5, 1949. She was a member of St. John’s Ladies Aid, as well as the American Legion Auxiliary, having joined at a young age in 1948.

On June 25, 2018, Bonnie Jean Damman met her Lord and Savior. She was joined once again with her parents, Christian and Clara; her brother, Keith; her son, Daryl; sister-in-law, Eileen Floyd; and one nephew.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn of Sanborn; son, David Damman of Sanborn; daughter, Renae (Stewart) Damman of Ames; four grandchildren: Augusta, Brandt, Clara, and Dena Damman; brother-in-law, Bob (Marilyn) Damman of Melvin, Iowa; one niece and two nephews; her dear cousin, Dolores Meier; other relatives and friends.
