Obituary of William Bousema

    William “Bill” Bousema went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 6, 2018, at the age of 95 years.

    Bill, the son of Arend “Arie” and Hattie (Holtrop) Bousema, was born on March 30, 1923, in Hull, Iowa. He spent his youth in the Hull area, attending a country school and graduating from the eighth grade.

    Bill was drafted into the United States Army in March of 1943. He served his country in the Pacific Theater during World War II and was honorably discharged in December of 1945. Bill was a lifetime member of the Sanborn American Legion, Earl T. Conaway Post #318.

    On February 25, 1948, he was united in marriage to Veda Veldhuizen at Orange City, Iowa. They spent their married life on a farm near Sanborn raising corn, soybeans, and livestock. Following his retirement, Bill sold Latham Seed and enjoyed visiting with area farmers. Bill and Veda recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

    Bill was a longtime member of the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed golfing, playing pool, bowling, and fishing.

    Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Veda Bousema of Sheldon, Iowa;  his four children: Jacqueline Pegg of Palm Desert, California, Bill (Bonnie) Bousema of Newport Beach, California, Allen (Cindy) Bousema of Sanborn, Iowa, and Kevin (Lauri) Bousema of Papillion, Nebraska; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren; four siblings: Art (Marlene) Bousema, Artesia, California; Greta Bomgaars, Bellflower, California;  Gertrude (Carl) Rossi, Clinton, Utah; and Bernie (Gwen) Bousema, Sheldon, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Marie Bousema, Worthington, Minnesota; Carol Bousema, Sheldon, Iowa; Kay Wesseling, Sheldon, Iowa; Bernice Veldhuizen, Oskaloosa, Iowa; and one brother-in-law, Dale Veldhuizen, Oskaloosa, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and extended family.

    Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, David Pegg; four brothers: John, Richard, Roy, and Henry; his father and mother-in-law, John K. and Hattie Schemper; brothers-in-law and their wives: Garrit (Gradda) Tien, Lambert (Hendreen) Branderhorst, Jay (Nellie) Veldhuizen, William “Bill” (Nellie) Veldhuizen, Albert (Virginia) Veldhuizen; brothers-in-law: Nick Bomgaars, Jack Littell, Richard Veldhuizen; sisters-in-law: Wilma Bousema, Icel Veldhuizen, and Marie Veldhuizen.
