~~Memorial Tribute
Jessie Vander Plaats was born June 22, 1927 at Archer, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Andringa) Dykstra. She spent her youth in the Hospers, Iowa area where she attended the Hospers Public School through the 8th grade.
On August 16, 1951, Jessie was united in marriage to Walter Vander Plaats at Bigelow, Minnesota. To this union, eight children were born.
Throughout her life, Jessie spent most of her time caring for, and giving to others. This was truly her greatest pleasure, but in her spare time, she enjoyed time outdoors tending to her flower garden, or working on embroidery projects. She was a member of the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church. Jessie moved to Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, Iowa in August of this year, where she passed from this life having reached the age of 90 years.
With her passing, Jessie is once again reunited with her parents, Charles and Anna Dykstra; her husband, Walter; an infant son; her son, Bryan; son-in-law, Lynn Zylstra; four brothers: Gary (Julia) Dykstra, Don (Shareene) Dykstra, Dick Dykstra, and Jim Dykstra; and two brothers-in-law: John Holtrop, and Simon DeBoer.
Jessie will be lovingly remembered by her children: Joyce Meister (Brad Collum) of Sheldon, Iowa, Paul (Kim) Vander Plaats of Little Rock, Iowa, Beverly (Mike) Baumgarn of Sibley, Iowa, Ruth (Don) Post of Orange City, Iowa, Robert Vander Plaats of Sibley, Iowa, and Sharon Zylstra of Rock Valley, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry (Joyce) Dykstra; sisters: Wilma DeBoer, Hilda Holtrop, and Betty (Herm) Cooper; sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Dykstra and Florence Dykstra; other relatives and friends.
