Obituary of LeRoy Gene Rozeboom

Please share a memory of LeRoy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

LeRoy Gene "Cork" Rozeboom, son of Robert Rozeboom and Leola Fern (Webster) Rozeboom, was born October 23, 1936 in rural Sanborn, Iowa. He received his education at the Sanborn Public School, graduating with the class of 1955.
Cork served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam era from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1961. On April 13, 1968, he was united in marriage to Linda Marlene Maranell at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sanborn. The couple began farming together north of Sanborn where they raised their two sons: Paul and Micheal.
Having been raised on a farm, and being a farmer himself, Cork was in tune with nature. He learned at an early age about being a good land steward through diligence and hard work; to appreciate the awesome beauty of creation as well as its destructive power, and to never take a good day for granted. He valued the friendship of his neighbors and friends, and the simple comfort of a devoted pet. When he could find the time, Cork enjoyed hunting, particularly, fox hunting. Fishing on the lake in the summer, and ice fishing and trapping during the winter months were all favorite recreations. He passed his love of nature on to his grandchildren, teaching them to fish and hunt, as well as how to drive a vehicle. Cork had been affiliated with the Methodist church over the years. He passed from this life on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the age of 80.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents; his parents, Robert and Leola Rozeboom; his brother, Galen Rozeboom; mother and father-in-law, Marlin and Amy Maranell; daughter-in-law, Amy Rozeboom; sister-in-law, Marilyn Rozeboom; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Bob Mouw; and brother-in-law, Monte Maranell.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 49 years, Linda of Sanborn, IA; sons: Paul (Shelly Schnurr) Rozeboom of Omaha, NE, Micheal Rozeboom of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Travis (Sabrina) Rozeboom, Tyler (Sarah) Rozeboom, Kim (Brett) Weihe, Matthew (Emily) Rozeboom, Kaitlyn Rozeboom, Danielle Rozeboom, Bryce Rozeboom, Marisa and Grace Nuegebauer; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Collette Rozeboom; brothers and sisters-in-law: Rick Maranell, Bob Maranell, Marie Maranell, Michael (Pat) Maranell, Donna (Don) Olson, Sharon Small, and Ronda (Gary) Vondra; other relatives and friends.
