Obituary of Cole Henry Haspels

Please share a memory of Cole to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Cole Henry Haspels, son of Dean C. and Tracy L. (DeGraaf) Haspels, was born on September 26, 2011 at Sheldon, Iowa. He was welcomed by his big brother and best friend, Owen. Together, they grew up in their rural home east of Melvin, IA. Cole began his education at the Learning Tree Preschool in Sanborn, IA, experiencing many different things, going on outings, and making lots of new friends. He thoroughly enjoyed all of his teachers and looked forward to going to school, but at the end of the day, he was ready to get home and burn up a little energy. Anything outdoors beat being inside. "Farming" with his grandpas, taking tractor rides or playing with his own scaled-down versions was any kid's dream. Whenever he could, Cole liked to work with his Dad, helping do chores or just tailing him around their acreage. Any day it wasn't raining was a good day for "hunting". He and Owen, and of course, his dog, Mabel, would romp through the trees and tall grass near their house, never sure of what they'd turn up. Fishing was another fun thing to do - and if the fish weren't biting, there would usually be a boat ride at the end of the day to make you forget the disappointing catch. On days when he had to stay indoors, Cole amused himself with his Paw Patrol figures or constructed something creative with the Lego building blocks. He was also a willing helper when it came to clearing the dinner table; somehow doing dishes with his Mom never seemed like..."doing dishes". Birthdays and holidays meant fun times with the cousins, aunts and uncles at Grandpa and Grandma's house. But the days spent at "Nanny's" were always a special treat for Cole. Lots of fun things to do and good things to eat, and always done with love. Cole passed from this life on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the age of 5, but will always stay close in heart with those who dearly loved him. Preceding him in death were his grandmother, Nancy Haspels; aunt, Jacquelyn Haspels; great-grandparents: Gertrude and Cornelius Haspels; Elmer Boernsen, Orville and Lois DeGraaf, and Paul Plehall. Cole will be forever cherished by his parents, Dean and Tracy Haspels, and his brother, Owen, of Hartley, IA; grandparents: Gary Haspels, and Terry and Sandy DeGraaf all of Sanborn, IA; great-grandmothers: Joan Plehall of Sibley, IA, and Evelyn Boernsen of May City, IA; uncles: John Haspels of May City, IA, Robert (Jessica) Haspels and children, Elijah and Hannah of Alleman, IA, Cody (Ada) DeGraaf and children, MiKaya and Marli of Arnolds Park, IA; many other extended family members.
