Betty Joyce (Bracker) Witt, the daughter of Clarence and Tracy (Muhs) Bracker was born on April 8, 1922 at Hartley, IA. She was baptized on July 1, 1933 and confirmed on March 21, 1937 at the Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church in Hartley. Her childhood years were spent in the Hartley area, where she attended country school and later Hartley Public School where she graduated in 1939. Betty went on to further her education by receiving her teacher’s certificate, and taught in the country schools in Clay and Dickinson counties for three years. On June 13, 1943 she was united in marriage to Elmer Witt in Hartley. Following their marriage the couple moved to a farm north of Everly where they were engaged in farming for 45 years, and raised their three children: Ronald, Kerry Jo and Peggy. She worked at the Hartley Creamery for many years until it closed, and National Spencer (grease gun factory) for eight years. Following their retirement, the couple moved to Hartley in 1989. Elmer passed away on December 8, 1997. Betty continued to live in Hartley until her passing at her home on June 8, 2007. Betty was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ where she was an active member of Dorcas Society. She also belonged to the Friday Club, several card clubs and Care Review. Special interests of Betty’s included reading, going anywhere with family and friends and talking on the telephone with her many friends. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Ronald Witt and his wife, Karen, of Harris, IA, Kerry Jo Groth and her husband, Galen, of Spencer, IA, and Peggy Untiedt of Trout Creek, MT; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a brother: Roger Bracker and his wife, Sharon, of Omaha, NE; a sister: Lois Trojahn and her husband, Ray, of Clear Lake, IA; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives as well as many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and son-in-law Tom Untiedt.
