Obituary of Helma Gruhn

Helma H. Gruhn, the daughter of Ingwer (Henry) and Anna (Martensen) Jacobs, was born at Sanborn, IA on May 9, 1915. She lived her youth and received her education at country school Lincoln #8 and later attended school in Hartley. Helma was united in marriage to Ernest Gruhn, Jr.in 1936. They were blessed with one daughter Joyce. Following their marriage they farmed for a short time until the untimely death of Ernest in 1937. For forty years she worked for the Central Iowa Telephone Company and later the G.T.E. Phone Company, both of Hartley. Helma moved to the assisted living care center in the fall of 2002. She was admitted to the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar on February 17, 2007 because of health problems and died there on February 18, 2007. She is survived by her daughter: Joyce Bryant and her husband, Jim of Eldridge, IA; two grandsons: Jeff Bryant and his wife, Melinda, of LeClaire, IA; Terry Bryant and his wife, Dawn, of Cumming, GA; two great granddaughters: Jennifer and Sarah Bryant; one great grandson: Jackson Bryant; two brothers: Glenn Jacobs of Denver, CO and Delbert Jacobs of Kansas City, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Helma was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, the Dorcas Society, Kilo Club, Rebekahs and many bridge clubs over the years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers: Harry, John, Earl and Ed Jacobs; four sisters: Hilda Kriesel, Anna Mae Jacobs, Marie Holman, Lillian Sonksen and Henrietta Jacobs and a grandson Brad Bryant.
