Obituary of Evelyn Tewes

Evelyn Ilene Tewes was born in Melvin, Iowa on April 12, 1921; the daughter of Arthur and Laura (Trickel) Hansen. She spent her childhood years growing up and attending school at Melvin. Evelyn graduated from Melvin High School in 1939. On September 9, 1941 she married Harlan Tewes in South Sioux City, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with two children: Larry and Nancy. Following their marriage the couple farmed together in Dickinson and O’Brien counties for several years before retiring and moving into the town of Hartley in December of 1981. Following Harlan’s passing in 1994, Evelyn moved to Omaha, NE in 1996 where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law for the passed ten years. Evelyn returned to Northwest Iowa where she moved to the St. Lukes Nursing Home in Spencer, Iowa on November 24, 2006. On December 9, 2006 she entered the Spencer Hospital and passed away there on December 17, 2006. Left to cherish her memory are her children; Larry Tewes and his wife, Linda, of Greenville, Iowa, Nancy Hess and her husband, Lenard of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Carol and Rob Gilbertson of Spencer, Iowa, Annie and Jim DeBoer of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Sherri and Mark White of Spencer, Iowa, Zachary Tewes of Royal, Iowa, Robert and Bill Hess of Omaha, Nebraska; one great-grandchild; Brandon Mc Queen of Spirit Lake, Iowa; one sister: Dorothy Fink of Melvin, Iowa; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Harlan; and parents Arthur and Laura Hansen. Evelyn was an avid gardener, she also enjoyed reading, writing letters and most of all spending time with her family.
