Obituary of Wilma Vogel

Wilma “Billie” Vogel was born in Sibley, IA on October 6, 1919; the daughter of John and Grace (Van Kekerix) Vogel. She spent her early years in the Sanborn area, and graduated from the Sanborn Public School. “Aunt Billie”, as she was known by her nieces and nephews that knew her well, loved to talk. She always had that smile and a twinkle in her eye as she told you one of her many stories. She especially loved to tell the stories about growing up on the farm-the animals, and doing chores with her brothers and sisters. Billie was not afraid of hard work. She cleaned many homes and businesses. She would walk from one end of town to the other to get her jobs done, and to shop. She was often busy with her flowers and her garden. She was an avid canner and baker, and served many great meals. Her fried chicken will certainly be missed! She enjoyed doing cross-stitch, embroidery and other handwork. By some standards, Billie lived a simple life, and was not a fan of modern medicine; Witch Hazel, Vicks and aspirin were her staples for curing almost anything. She loved her parents dearly, and took excellent care of them until they passed away. She was dedicated to her church, and served as church librarian at First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon for over 30 years. Survivors include her many nieces and nephews who spent time with her and loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, her three sisters: Adeline, Pearl and Dorothy, and her four brothers: John Jr., Kryn, Peter and Alvin. Although Billie’s memory had faded over the last few years, those who knew her would agree, that no doubt, she is now busy getting her family in heaven up to date with her stories of what’s been going on!
