Memorial Tribute
Marguerite Lillian (Harms) Wogen was born in Garner, IA on September 21, 1917 to Arthur and Ida (Blank) Abele. She spent her childhood years in and around the Garner area, attending school
in Garner until graduation. Marguerite then attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and earned a B.A. degree in Education.
After graduating from college Marguerite came to Archer as a new school teacher. On June 29, 1940, she married Joe V. Harms at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA, and to this union, two children were born:, a daughter, Joan and a son Donald. While the couple farmed near Archer, Marguerite taught school in both Archer and Primghar. In 1960 the Harms’ sold their farm and moved to Marshalltown, IA where they purchased and managed the Franklin Motel for many years. She continued to teach school in West Marshall and East Marshall School Districts. Joe passed away in 1979. In October 1982 Marguerite was married to Lindley T. Wogen, and the couple settled in Le Grand, IA. Due to her declining health, Marguerite moved to Eugene, OR in April, 2006 to be near her children. She passed away at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene on June 19, 2006.
Survivors include her husband, Lindley T. Wogen of Le Grand, IA;, a daughter, Joan Runge and her husband Dennis of Eugene, OR; a son Donald and his wife, Chila Harms of Eugene, OR; five grandchildren and their families: Jody Runge, Brian (Hope) Runge and daughter Renee; Deann Hagensick and daughter Kelsie, Jonna (Obeary) Spires and sons Nolen and Nathan; Michael Joe Harms; many other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her first husband Joe Harms; three brothers: Oren, Carlyle and John; a sister, Ruby Greiman Hartshorne.
Marguerite was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, oil painting and china painting. Her presence will be missed by many.
