Memorial Tribute Ruth Eleanor (Ahrenstorff) Vetter, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went home to her Lord on October 14, 2016. Ruth Eleanor Vetter, daughter of Ernest and Dora (Sauer) Ahrenstorff, was born December 18, 1923 in Hartley, IA. Ruth attended Hartley Community Schools, graduating in 1941. On February 22, 1948, Ruth was united in marriage to Marlin William Vetter at the May City Lutheran Church in May City, IA. The couple was blessed with three children: Becky, Gale, and Gary. Following their marriage, Marlin and Ruth began farming with Ruth’s parents, eventually moving onto the family farm northwest of Hartley. They lived there until they retired in 1985 when they moved off the farm and into Hartley. Ruth was a life-long member of the Hartley Methodist Church where she served as treasurer of the Methodist Women's group for many years. She was also a long-time member of the P.E.O Club in Hartley. She enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, knitting, playing cards, baking bread and cooking, but her greatest joy was raising her children and hosting gatherings for family and friends. In March of 2012, Marlin and Ruth moved into the Assisted Living unit in Hartley. At the time of her death, she resided at Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley. Through the joys of her life, as well as the difficult times, her unwavering faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ, carried her through.
