Obituary of Vernon Kaiser

Please share a memory of Vernon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Memorial Tribute Vernon Charles Kaiser, son of Esther (Johnson) Kaiser and Conrad Kaiser, was born November 13, 1922 on the family farm in O’Brien County, Iowa. He received his education in rural schools in O’Brien County and graduated from Archer High School in 1940. He was engaged in farming on the family farm and was a life-long farmer, starting at the age of 13 when his father passed away. Vernon was united in marriage to Bernice Smith on November 24, 1945 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home on the Kaiser family farm near Hospers, Iowa with their daughters, Connie and Sheryl. Sheryl passed away in 1953. Vernon continued farming, did custom baling and sold Farmer’s Hybrid and Asgrow seeds for many years. He was presented with many Outstanding Salesman awards. He enjoyed the relationships he developed with all of the customers he met and could easily start up a conversation with anyone. Vernon was a life-long member of the Baker and Archer United Methodist Churches. Over the years he served on the Baker Methodist Church Board, the Baker Township Trustees, the Archer Co-op Grain Elevator Board, the O’Brien County Farm Bureau, and was a member of the Prairie Queen Kiwanis in Sheldon, Iowa. Throughout his life he also enjoyed fishing, playing chess, bowling and being in various card clubs with Bernice. His love of the land was very evident in that he never really ‘retired’. He was always involved with farming and was very proud that the farm he lived on was a ‘Century Farm’. He was a loving husband and father and had a special joy in being a grandfather and great-grandfather. His family treasured their many memories of him. His great sense of humor was enjoyed by all. Vernon cherished 70 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Bernice, until her passing in March of 2016. On October 9, 2016 he too passed into his heavenly home at the age of 93. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Connie (Robert) Van Den Oever; grandson, Kirk; granddaughter, Kelli (Scott) Schreiner; four great-grandchildren: Meghan, Alex, Ian and Aubri; and many nieces, nephews and friends. With his passing, Vernon joins his parents; wife, Bernice; daughter, Sheryl; brothers: Harry and Roy; and sisters-in-law: Dorothy and Bernice. He will be missed greatly by all those who shared his life. Celebration of Life Vernon C.
