Memorial Tribute
Mildred A. Hoffman, 88, formerly of Melvin, IA, died Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Sanborn, IA, with Fr. Tim Hogan officiating. Burial will take place at St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery, Sibley, IA. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the rosary prayed at 4:30 p.m., and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Mildred was born November 29, 1927, in Ashton, IA, the daughter of Frank and Regina (Gacke) Poss. At the age of seven her family moved to Sibley, IA. After graduating from Sibley High School, she worked for a time at the telephone office.
She married Frank P. Hoffman on February 18, 1947, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Sibley. The couple then lived on the family farm near Melvin, IA. After more than fifty years of marriage, her husband Frank passed away on July 11, 2001.
Mildred enjoyed being a homemaker, caring for her family and doing a variety of crafts.
Survivors include Connie (John) Pope of Sioux City, Rosann (John) Hodgin and Greg (Rita) Hoffman, all of Spencer, Bill (Lori) Hoffman of Sheldon, Dennis (Doris) Hoffman of Sibley, Sharon (Rod) Williamson of Urbandale, and Peggy (Bruce) Jacobsma of Rock Valley; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers Herb Poss and Lee Poss; and, sister Doris Klaassen.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, daughter Jeanne, sisters Maxine and Eva, brothers Lester and Wilbur, and grandson Benjamin Williamson.
