Obituary of Alvin Petersen

Alvin Edward Petersen, the son of Edward G. Petersen and Luella F. Muhs was born on December 13, 1921 in Hartley, IA. He lived his entire life in the Hartley area, attending his local country school in Osceola country and then Hartley high school. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in Europe from 1944 – 1945. He then returned to Hartley to farm with his father on the family farm.
On September 24, 1950 he was united in marriage to Lorene K. Seegers at the Horton Church near Ocheyedan, IA. The couple was blessed with two sons, Gary and Dennis. Following their marriage, the couple was engaged in farming together on the family farm Northeast of Hartley for 41 years. Alvin moved to the Hartley Community Memorial Health Center in January of 2014 and passed away there on Saturday, January 30, 2016.
Alvin was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ for over 70 years. He served on the Consistory, Brotherhood, Properties and numerous other special committees. He enjoyed reading, gardening, fishing and fixing anything he thought could run at least another month.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene, of 62 years. He is survived by his two sons: Gary Petersen and his wife, Barbara, of Plymouth, MN and Dennis Petersen and his wife, Joan, of Hartley, IA; three grandchildren; Matthew Petersen of Sheldon, IA, Nicholas Petersen of St. Louis MO, and Tara Watermiller and her husband, Ryan.
