Memorial Tribute
Gary Dean Muilenburg, the son of Adrian and Emma Helen (Reighard) Muilenburg was born in Sibley, Iowa on December 8, 1948. He grew up on the family farm southwest of Melvin, Iowa, and graduated from Melvin High School in 1967.
Following graduation, Gary helped his Dad on the farm. He served his country with the United States Navy from July, 1968 through March, 1970. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Melvin being employed with several companies in the area including AMPI, Melvin Locker, Melvin CD Farm Services, and a sheet metal company at Grimes, Iowa.
Gary was a life-long member of the Melvin United Methodist Church where he had been baptized and confirmed. Faith, church, and fellowship were an important part of his life.
In his early years, Gary enjoyed hunting, baseball, and playing pool. Later in life, he moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon, Iowa where he made many friends, and participated in numerous activities while living there. He treasured his time at the Home and would volunteer with various functions there on a daily basis. Surrounded by family, Gary passed away on October 31, 2015 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 67. He will be forever missed.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, David; his sister, Marilyn, and her husband, Clifford McCarty.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Lyle (Barbara) Muilenburg of Hartley, Iowa; children: Rodney Muilenburg (Rick Larson) of Waterloo, Iowa and Deanna Tapia of Spencer, Iowa; grandchildren: Israel and Isaiah Tapia; stepchildren: Don Serr, Victor Serr, and Tammy Wolff; a host of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews whom he appreciated spending time with, and loved very much.
