Obituary of Nancy Haspels

Please share a memory of Nancy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Nancy Ann Haspels, daughter of Elmer and Evelyn (McNeil) Boernsen, was born on April 23, 1951 at Hartley, Iowa. She grew up on a farm north of May City, IA, along with her six siblings, and received her education at Ocheyedan Community School, graduating with the class of 1969. Following high school, Nancy attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, IA where she received her Nursing Degree. On July 22, 1972, Nancy married Randy Jacobs; he passed away on December 6, 1977. She was united in marriage to Gary Haspels of Sanborn, IA on June 18, 1982 at the First Reformed Church in Sanborn. The couple made their home on the Haspels family farm northeast of Sanborn where Nancy enjoyed raising their three sons. Over the years, she volunteered at the local school, helping out in the Kindergarten classroom, and was always involved in her boys' school activities. Nancy loved being around children. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years, and was often called on to baby-sit for friends and family alike. Nancy was employed at the Prairie View Retirement Campus in Sanborn for 19 years, serving in the Activities Department, and the Manor's laundry service before retiring in 2013. Between caring for her growing family and working away from home, there wasn't much time left by the end of the day, but Nancy would do what she could if someone needed her help. Gardening was always one of her favorite activities - not only did it help to feed her family, but gave her some time to just be outdoors for some fresh air! If things slowed down, working jigsaw puzzles filled in the gap, yet her greatest pleasure came from seeing her grandchildren; she loved each of them dearly. Nancy was a member of the Indian Lake Baptist Church near Worthington, MN. She passed from this life on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the age of 64, but will always be remembered by those whose lives she has touched. Preceding her in death were her infant daughter, Jacquelyn; her father, Elmer Boernsen; mother and father-in-law, Gertrude and Cornelius Haspels; brother, Dennis Boernsen; brother-in-law, Carl Haspels. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Gary of Sanborn, IA; sons: Robert and Jessica Haspels and their children, Elijah McDonald and Hannah Haspels of Alleman, IA, John Haspels of May City, IA, and Dean and Tracy Haspels and their children, Owen and Cole Haspels of May City, IA; her mother, Evelyn Boernsen; brothers: Rodney and Coreen Boernsen, Larry and Marlene Boernsen; sisters: Bonnie and Richard Rudlaff, Cindy and Paul Johnson, Karen and Brad Nash; sister-in-law, Joanna Haspels; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lorretta and Bernie Oviatt; other relatives and many friends.
