Obituary of Laura Recher

Laura Elsie Recher daughter of John and Katie (Holtman) Laubach was born February 24, 1922 at Royal, Iowa. She spent her youth in the Hartley, IA area, and attended school there. On December 20, 1944, Laura was united in marriage to Glen Arthur Recher at the American Lutheran Church in Melvin, IA. The couple made their home near May City, IA where they lived their entire married life. To this union, two children were born; Glen "Sonny" and Barbara. Laura was a devoted mother and farmwife; helping Glen wherever she could and tending to her family's needs. She was an excellent cook, as well as an avid gardener, often times preparing food for her family with the produce from her garden. When time would allow, she also enjoyed playing a good game of cards with friends. Laura was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hartley. In 2008, she left the farm and moved into St. Luke's Assisted Living at Spencer, IA., and later, to the Nursing Home in the same complex. Laura passed from this life on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the age of 93. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Glen Arnold "Sonny" (Dawn) Recher of Harris, IA, and her daughter, Barbara Ann (Larry) Lee of Sherburn, MN; grandchildren: Mark (Lynette) Recher, Beth (Rick) Sweeney, Wenda Recher, Kristen Recher, Shawna (Kevin) Brosh, Ryan (Kari) Lee; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and in-laws; other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband, Glen Recher; her parents, John and Katie Laubach; siblings and in-laws: Ernest (Lucille) Laubach, Alfred (Wilma) Laubach, Bertha (Bill) Popp, Gertrude (Olie) Lenz, Otilla (Hans) Kroger, William (Loma) Laubach, Adolf Laubach, Harold Laubach; and brother-in-law, Ervin Elser. Laura was also preceded in death by her late husband’s siblings and their spouses, Elmer Recher, George Recher, Hulda (Myrl) Groff, Ella (Amos) Meyer, Helen (Neal) Roelefsen, and Harold (Winona) Recher.
