Memorial Tribute
Gaylen Kurt Bobzien and his twin brother, Gaylord, were born September 20, 1931 to Clarence, Sr. and Mabyl (Bryant) Bobzien at Hartley, Iowa. He grew up on the farm near Hartley and attended country school at Grant #8. He enlisted in the United States Navy on January 25, 1952 and proudly served his country until August 5th 1954. He was stationed on the U.S. Navy Ship the Eldorado during the Korean War.
Aside from family and friends, Gaylen's life centered around his true passion which was farming; having been a steward of the land for over 50 years. During that time, he honed his skills driving and competing in antique tractor pulls, an event he participated in throughout his retirement years. He collected antique tractors, and spent numerous hours restoring them just so he could compete again. Those who knew and loved him, understood he was a man of routine; having lunch with his twin brother, Gaylord, was something he enjoyed for years. Gaylen passed from this life on March 4, 2015 at the age of 83.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Glen Bobzien (Alice Kenney) of Boone, IA, Gary Bobzien of Prior Lake, MN, Gene Bobzien of Hartley, IA, Ronda Terry (Loraine Epperly), Rita Bobzien and Faye Bobzien, all of Lincoln, NE, Brad Lorenzen of Denison, IA, Ginny (Keith) Larson of Schleswig, IA, Becky (Toney) Simms of Round Hill, VA, and Shelly (Rob) Muhlbauer of Vail, IA; sisters: Joann (Henry) Rozema of Marshfield, WI, Sheryl Ann Bobzien of Hartley, IA and Gale Bobzien of Maysville, MO; brothers: Gaylord (Florene) Bobzien of Hartley, IA, Jon Bobzien of Des Moines, IA, Darrel (Janet) Bobzien of Odebolt, IA, and Gary (Patricia) Bobzien of Maryville, MO; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
