Obituary of Ruby Smith

Ruby Johanna Smith, daughter of Otto and Matilda (Rieb) Huber, was born March 7, 1930 at Freeman, SD. She spent her youth, and received her education in the Freeman, SD area. On September 26, 1948, Ruby was united in marriage to E.W. Hattermann at a small country church near Freeman, SD. Following their marriage, the couple began their life together on a farm near Germantown, IA. To this union three boys were born: Steven, Dudley and Jeffrey. She spent her early years raising her three boys. Later in life, Ruby married Wilbur Smith of Sanborn, IA on August 3, 1980. They made their home in Sanborn. In January of 2011, Ruby moved to the Primghar Rehabilitation and Care Center in Primghar, IA. She passed away there on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the age of 84. Ruby was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary both of Sanborn. In her leisure time she loved to garden, go dancing and enjoyed traveling to various destinations. She is survived by her three sons and their families: Steven (Nhut) Hattermann of Evansville, WY, Dudley Hattermann of Douglas, WY and Jeffrey (Missy) Hattermann of Primghar, IA; grandchildren: Mai (Dean) Mestas and her son, Jace, Mike (Hong) Hattermann and his daughter, Jessica; step-grandchildren: Raymond (Kristina) Berning and their son, Nicholas, Ruth Ann (Ryan) Triplett and their children: Ellamae and Easton; step-children: Russell Wayne Smith of Hartley, IA, Dale Ray Smith of Phoenix, AZ, Paula Rae (Roger) Burley of Hartley, IA, Patricia Anne (Tim) Roberts of Hartley; one brother, Darold (Janet) Huber of Loveland, CO; and one sister, LaVernea Roth of Scotland, SD.; other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, Otto and Matilda; her husbands, E.W. Hattermann and Wilbur Smith; her brother, Merlyn Huber; and her niece, Sheila Killeen. Celebration of Life Ruby J.
