Obituary of Elva Dau

Please share a memory of Elva to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elva Dau, daughter of Dick and Emma (Meyer) Engelke, was born on March 17, 1920 at Sutherland, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, IA, and graduated from Calumet High School in 1938. On September 21, 1941, Elva was united in marriage to Roy Dau at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland. Following their marriage, they began farming together near Melvin, IA where they raised their three children: Allen, Donna, and Dianne. After Roy's passing in 1966, Elva and Dianne remained on the farm until 1969, when they moved to the town of Hartley, IA. Elva was very active in her church, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed being a member of the LWML, and was a charter member of Rachel Circle. She helped with various chores on the farm and was a member of Farm Bureau. Using her knowledge of farm life and homemaking, Elva volunteered as a 4-H Club Leader for many years. After moving to Hartley, she was employed for 21 years with the Hartley Hospital in the Dietary Department, retiring in 1991. Elva loved to bake and cook, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren remember reaping the benefits whenever they visited – her caramel rolls and banana bread were the best! She had many hobbies that kept her busy over the years; gardening, hand-quilting, sewing, and visiting with her friends and neighbors. Yet her greatest delight was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Bob Engelke of Paullina, IA; one sister-in-law, Helen Dau of Sheldon, IA; her children and their spouses: Allen (Judy) Dau of Melvin, IA, Donna (Larry) Schaa of Lytton, IA, and Dianne (Rod) Roth of Hartley, IA; six grandchildren and their spouses, along with fourteen great-grandchildren: Traci Manning, Caleb, Jordan, Quin, and Amiah of Webster City, IA, Lee Dau, Michael and Brandon of Melvin, IA, Nicole (Jay) Layman, Jake, Violet and Jeremiah of Sioux City, IA, Grant (Jen) Dau and Jase of Lake Park, IA, Nick (Candy) Roth, Rhett and Ava of Lawton, IA, and Chris (Debbie) Roth, Jada, Isabella and Charli of Cedar Falls, IA; other relatives and many long-time friends.
