Obituary of Van Egdom

Janet Marie Van Egdom, the daughter of Harry W. and Odetta G. (Harris) Hall, was born on September 25, 1943 in Sioux Falls, SD. She lived her youth in the Sioux Falls area and attended Springdale Rural School - District 38, graduating from Canton High School in 1962. She was united in marriage to Roger Duane Van Egdom at Harrisburg, SD. The couple was blessed with four children: Linda, Craig, David, and Dennis. Following their marriage, Roger and Jan lived in Hudson, SD where Roger worked with Mr. Harvey Twedt on his farm while Jan was a stay-at-home-mom. In 1964, the family relocated to Carmel, IA, and five years later, moved to a dairy farm north of Sanborn, IA. While living at Sanborn, Jan worked as a bookkeeper for Norman Bros. Ford Dealership in Primghar, IA. Being a "people-person", it was a natural fit when she became an Avon sales representative; something she enjoyed doing for the next 45 years. Jan was also employed at AMPI in Sanborn for 27 years, and after her retirement, she enjoyed substituting at HMS Middle School in Sanborn as a cook and an aide. Jan's life reflected her compassion for other people. She could be found volunteering at Prairie View Nursing Home "doing nails" for the residents, or serving her community the past seven years by helping out at Sanborn Preservation Society's Flea Market. Her true joy was found in serving others. Jan was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Sanborn Jan and Roger enjoyed many Saturday outings together - taking bus tours to Deadwood, SD or rummaging through second-hand stores, a passion which led to her many collections! Jan found pleasure in decorating their home for all the holidays, and watching their grandchildren enjoy it too. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest delight. Jan passed from this life on Monday, November 24, 2014 at the age of 71. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Roger of Sanborn; her children: Linda (Dan) Daggett of Sanborn, Craig (Melanie) Van Egdom of Fairmont, MN, David (Kami) Van Egdom of Sanborn, and Dennis Van Egdom also of Sanborn; sisters: Mary (Jack) Peltier of Sioux Falls, SD, and Donna Peterson of Deer Lodge, MT; brother, James W. (Judy) Hall of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Wade (Liz) Daggett, Blair Daggett, Joesph Daggett and Michael Daggett (Tara Pennings), Alyssa (Patrick) Smith, Ashley (Walter Anderson) Van Egdom, Austin Steffen, Trevor Iverson, Trent Van Egdom, Brad Van Egdom, and Brady (Jenna Koontz) Van Egdom; great-grandchildren: Ava, Ashlyn, Mia, Ella, Isla, and baby Aryn (on her way); her special families: Don, Brenda, Tyler and Alysa Hibbing, and Bradd, Susan, Austin and Jenna Dreessen, other relatives and many, many friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, Harry and Odetta Hall; father-in-law, John Van Egdom; brother-in-law, Roger Peterson.
