Obituary of Evonne Hofman

Vonnie Hofman, daughter of Don and Eunice (Vander Velde) Kroese was born October 13, 1950. She grew up in Sanborn, Iowa and attended Sanborn Community Schools. Vonnie was active in band, choir, theater and basketball. After graduation, Vonnie attended Spencer School of Business and later worked in the office of Iowa Public Service in Sheldon. Vonnie married Dave Hofman on December 26, 1969 at the First Reformed Church in Sanborn. They lived in Sheldon after they were married and eventually moved to a farm between Sanborn and Primghar. This was a dream shared by both of them, living there nearly 42 years. Vonnie was an active member of Sanborn CRC. After the kids were in school, she worked part-time at several jobs including the NuYu Fitness Farm, the Sanborn Pioneer newspaper, Prairie View Manor and Sanborn Hardware. In 2000, she began working at Village Northwest as a cognitive skills instructor. Vonnie fulfilled another dream in 2010 as a teacher associate, working with children with special needs. She worked at the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn elementary school until her health made it impossible to work as she courageously fought cancer. Surrounded by her husband, her children, and a very special grandson, Vonnie passed into glory at her home, on Friday, October 3, 2014. She loved walking, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren. Vonnie and Dave enjoyed antiquing, and just being together. Vonnie is survived by her husband, Dave; son, Stephen Hofman of LeMars, IA, and his children: Ty and Cheyenne; son, Seth (Susan) Hofman of Melvin, IA, and their children: David, Grace, Maggie, Jacob and Katelyn; daughter, Rebecca (Orlan) Huizenga of Orange City, IA, and their children: Madelyne and Makenna; daughter, Sarah (Brian) Pals of Hartley, IA, and their children: Matthew, Emma and Ellie; her father, Don Kroese of Sheldon, IA; and two brothers: Ron (Kimberley) of Falcon Heights, MN and Bob (Nancy) of Pella, IA; brothers and sisters-in-law: Kay and Jay Wesseling of Sheldon, IA, Gordon and Rachel Hofman of Milwaukee WI, Arlen and Mary Hofman of Sanborn, IA, Jason and Linda Hofman of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Nancy and John Gosselink of Pella, IA; her Aunts: Katie Vander Velde and Darlene Kroese of Sanborn, IA and Evie Morton of Rock Rapids, IA; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of loving friends.
