Obituary of Donald Dykstra

Donald "Daffy" Charles Dykstra, the son of Charley and Anna (Andringa) Dykstra, was born on March 8, 1938. His childhood years were spent in Hospers, IA, where he attended Hospers Christian School; graduating from Hospers Public High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962, when he was honorably discharged. During his military career, he was stationed in the United States as well as Germany. On November 27, 1963, Daffy was united in marriage to Shareene Honkomp of Granville, IA. The couple made their home in Archer, IA where Daffy was employed for 15 years as a carpenter with Virgil Ohl Construction. He later was employed as a truck driver for another 15 years with various trucking companies. In 1991, Daffy started driving truck for AMPI, so in 1996, Daffy and Shareene moved to Sanborn, IA. Shareene passed away in February of 1999. Daffy continued at AMPI for a total of 13 years, retiring in 2007. He met a special friend and companion, Lori Muilenburg, in 2005, and they have spent the last nine years enjoying each other's company. Daffy passed away at his home in Sheldon on Monday, July 14, 2014, at the age of 76. Daffy always found time to go fishing or play a round of golf. He will be remembered with laughter, smiles and a good joke. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shareene; two brothers: Gary Dykstra and Dick Dykstra; three brothers-in-law: Simon DeBoer, Walt Vander Plaats, and John Holtrop; and one nephew, Brian Vander Plaats. Survivors include his daughters: Donna (Mark) Kock of Sioux City, IA, Dawn (Dave) Schwarz of Worthington, MN; three grandchildren: Jenna Kock of Sioux City, IA, Justin Schwarz of Worthington, MN and Kayla and Brandon Jensen of Larchwood, IA; one great-grandchild, Aubryn Jensen of Larchwood, IA; special friend, Lori Muilenburg of Sheldon, IA, and her three children: Lesa (Dennis) Kruger of Sheldon, IA, Doug (Deb) Muilenburg of Sioux City, IA, and Julie (Paul) Carlson of Sioux City, IA; ten step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; eight siblings and their spouses: Wilma DeBoer of Sheldon, IA, Jesse Vander Plaats of Sanborn, IA, Jim (Elizabeth) Dykstra of Orange City, IA, Julia Dykstra of Sheldon, IA, Hank (Joyce) Dykstra of Orange City, IA, Hilda Holtrop of Sheldon, IA and Betty (Herm) Cooper of Orange City, IA; sisters-in-law: Julie Ann (Larry) Delperdang, Marjean (Sebastian) Dattolico and families of Sioux City, IA; other relatives and many friends.
