Florence Idella Ohrt, the daughter of Israel and Mary (Freymoyer) Peden, was born on August 4, 1926 in Rochester, IA, the youngest of eight children. She lived her youth in Springdale, IA where she went to school, and later obtained her GED from Kirkwood Community College in Monticello, Iowa.
On January 10, 1942, she was united in marriage to Edward Lee Ohrt in Tipton, Iowa. During their 46 years of marriage, Edward and Florence lived in Springdale, West Branch, and Monticello, Iowa. In 1982 they moved to Sanborn, where they purchased and ran Bowl Mor Lanes and Cafe. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sanborn.
Florence loved spending time with family and friends, bowling, playing cards, sewing and baking. Throughout her lifetime, she was employed at a variety of restaurants and cafes. She delivered for Meals on Wheels in addition to working as a home health aid.
Florence passed away at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, having reached the age of 87 years, 8 months and 18 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Israel and Mary, her husband Edward Ohrt, and her siblings: Henry Peden, George Peden, Mae Oxley, Violet Kirkpatrick, Eva Karns, Vera Wilson, and Serena Merten.
She is survived by her children: Carl (Barb) Ohrt of Cedar Rapids, IA, Mearl (Alice) Ohrt of Melvin, IA, Becky (Mel) Menster of Monticello and Penny (Mike) Haag of Sanborn; 13 grandchildren: Ron (Julia) Ohrt of Marshalltown, IA, Dan (Carrie) Ohrt, Julie (Josh) Rich, Kent (Jane) Harms and Paul Haag, all of Cedar Rapids, Scott (Stephanie) Ohrt, Ramo (RaeJean) Ohrt, Shelly Ohrt, and Lori (Jeff) Queck, all of Sanborn, Beth (Chuck) Welsch, Brenda (Lennie) Kiburz, and Bruce (Melissa) Menster, all of Monticello, Pete (Barb) Haag of Primghar, IA; 38 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren (number "7" is expected in August); many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
