Obituary of Margaret Heilman

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Celia Heilman was born May 30, 1916 on a farm southwest of May City, to Garritt and Anna (Eden) Luinstra. She spent her childhood years in country school in Harrison and Westport townships of Osceola and Dickinson Counties. Her teen years were spent working in many homes in the May City area, after which she was employed in the May City Store for four years. She was baptized and confirmed in 1934 in a class of 20 adults at St. John’s Lutheran Church at May City. She was united in marriage to Elmer Heilman on April 17, 1938. They lived in Osceola County all of their married lives with the exception of four years near Adrian, Minnesota. They then moved to a farm west of May City, continuing to farm until 1976. They retired and moved north of May City where they resided. Elmer passed away October 14, 2001. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in May City where she was an active member of the LWML, serving in various offices. She sewed countless quilt tops that were assembled by the LWML, and sent to Lutheran World Relief. She also served on the Altar Guild for 35 years. Margaret loved gardening, canning, cooking, baking, sewing, fishing, and outdoor work. She spent many hours making colorful quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Brides and grooms, graduates, new babies and friends were also lucky recipients of her quilts. Her children gave her a rug loom, and she turned it into an enjoyable hobby, weaving rugs and giving them as gifts. If anyone ever wondered about a particular day, they could ask her. She always kept a daily journal. Some of her favorite times were family reunions, as family was very important to her. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, living and sharing her Christian faith.
