Please share a memory of Viola to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Viola Minnie Plopper, daughter of Gustave and Lula (Frick) Fitzer, was born June 6, 1914 in Hartley, Iowa. She attended the Omega #2 country school, southeast of Hartley, through the 8th grade. Her childhood years were spent in the Hartley area. On June 11, 1941, Viola was united in marriage to Emerson White. The couple was engaged in farming southeast of Hartley until Emerson's death on February 17, 1946. Viola then moved into the town of Hartley and operated her own house-cleaning business. She was remarried on February 27, 1958 to Arthur Plopper and together they moved out to her farm southeast of Hartley. Arthur passed away on August 22, 1995, and Viola moved back in to Hartley. She became a resident of Community Memorial Health Center in 2008 where she passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the age of 99. Viola spent her spare time doing crafts, embroidery and gardening. She and Arthur enjoyed camping trips in the summer and spent winter months in the warmer climate of Texas. She loved to take pictures, and had a special affinity for watching parades. There was no greater fan of Lawrence Welk than Viola and she would attend his dances and always watched his shows. Survivors include her children: Verlin (Natalja) Fitzer of Panama City Beach, FL, Gene (Marlene) White of Hartley, IA, Wayne (Lynn) White of Albuquerque, NM; and Arlyn (Patti) White of Salt Lake City, UT; step-children: Ronnie (Arlene) Plopper of Wichita, KS, Connie Stille of Storm Lake, IA, Janice (Ted) Kramer of George, IA; and 14 grandchildren and 11 step-grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Emerson and Arthur; brothers Edwin and Delmer (Marla) Miller; grandson, Jeff White; sisters-in-law Arlene Buetner and Olive White; step-sons-in-law, Rich Stille and Ron Murphy; step-grandsons, Marty Murphy and Randi Horstman.
