Obituary of Marilyn Verhoef

Memorial Tribute Marilyn June Verhoef, daughter of Klass and Johanna (Solsma) Adema, was born November 7, 1932 in Sanborn, Iowa. The family moved to Belleflower, CA for a short time, and then relocated back to the Sheldon, IA area where Marilyn attended country school through the 8th grade. On April 26, 1951, Marilyn was united in marriage to Gerald "Jerry" Verhoef at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, IA. They were blessed with four children: Roger, Sandra, Carol and Kim. The couple moved to Rock Valley, IA in 1952 where Jerry worked for Van Abbema Implement. In 1954, they came to Hartley, IA where they spent most of their married life and raised their family. Jerry passed away on September 19, 2009. Marilyn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hartley. She was a diligent worker; being employed as a CNA at the Hartley Hospital for many years, as well as waitressing and various other jobs. She thoroughly enjoyed gardening; vegetables or flowers, but especially tending her roses. She would always find time to visit with family and friends over a good cup of coffee. Marilyn became a resident at Community Memorial Health Center in October of 2011. She passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Survivors include her children: Roger (Mia) Verhoef of Pella, IA and their children, Blair (Dan) Leonard, Dylan Verhoef and Brady Van Waardhuizen; Sandra Verhoef of Sanborn, IA; Carol (Brad) Knock of Melvin, IA and their children, Tracy (Jamin) Breuer and Katie Knock; Kim (Jerry) Wolthuizen of Sheldon, IA and their children, Cassie (Jon) Heiliger, Michael and Devin; two sisters: Pearl Haack of Hospers, IA, and Alma (Jake) Westra of Sheldon; sister-in-law, Myrna (Ray) Van Pelt of Orange City, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters-in-law: Ardis Bornholdt and Karen Hellinga; two brothers-in-law: Bob Bornholdt, and James "Jim" Haack; son-in-law, Paul DeMey; granddaughter, Elizabeth Faye DeBoer (in infancy).
