Memorial Tribute
Cloy Edward Olhausen, son of Edward and Leona (Kruse) Olhausen, was born February 18, 1933 in Hartley, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Evangelical & Reformed Church in Hartley and grew up in the Hartley area. He received his education at the Hartley Public School, graduating with the class of 1951.
Cloy was inducted into the United States Army on June 15, 1953, serving at Ft. Chaffee, AR and Hanau, Germany. On October 22, 1953, he was united in marriage to Colleen "Connie" Ardyce Thee at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, Iowa. Cloy was honorably discharged from military service on May 5, 1955. He returned home and began farming and feeding beef cattle in the Hartley and May City areas from 1955 to 1997.
In February of 2001, Cloy and Connie moved into the town of Hartley, and in May of 2007, Cloy became a resident at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley. He passed away there on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the age of 80.
Cloy was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley. He served on the O'Brien County Farm Bureau Board as well as two terms on the Hartley Community Hospital Board (1973-1979; 1992-1997). He always enjoyed being outdoors; taking fishing trips to Canada and playing a good game of golf.
Survivors include his wife, Connie; brothers: Roger (Rose) Olhausen of Jefferson, IA and Dale (Lynn) Olhausen of Loveland, CO; nieces and nephews: Randy Olhausen, Robin (Steve) Brand, Jill (Ken) Carodine, Jeff Olhausen, Judy (Matt) Weaver, John (Lynn) Thee, Shannon (John) Hanson; great-nieces and nephews; cousins; as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Leona Olhausen.
