Obituary of Deltha Brandt

Memorial Tribute Deltha Mae Brandt, the daughter of Glenn and Alice (Shaw) Getting was born on July 17, 1925 in Sanborn, IA. She lived the majority of her lifetime in Sanborn, IA and attended Sanborn Public School, graduating in 1943. On November 18, 1948, Deltha was united in marriage to Arlin Arthur Brandt in Sanborn, IA. To this union four children were born: Susan, Michael, Ronald and Randy. Following their marriage, the couple farmed together and raised their family in the Melvin area. Deltha was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Deltha drove school bus for Melvin Public School and later, the HMS school system for a total of 33 years. The couple moved to the town of Melvin in 1975 and retired from farming in 2006. In their later years, Deltha and Arlin did a lot of traveling to visit their sons wherever they were stationed while serving in the military. On November 16, 2008, Arlin passed away. Deltha moved to the Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn in 2007, and passed away there on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at the age of 88. Deltha was a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church of Melvin where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years, served on funeral committees, the UMW and enjoyed the church activities. She was also an active member of the Melvin American Legion Auxiliary where she served as an officer on the local and county levels. Her hobbies included reading, gardening, traveling and Monday night bowling league. Deltha was always known as the "Book Lady". She is survived by her children and their families: Susan Brandt of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Michael (Christine) Brandt of Spotsylvania, VA and Ronald Brandt of Sunnyvale, CA; three grandchildren: Carrie Brandt of Spotsylvania, VA, Amy (Andy) Christopher of Fredricksburg, VA, and Laurie Brandt of Spotsylvania, VA; four great-grandchildren: Callie, Ashleigh, Andrew and Addison; one brother-in-law, Harold (Francine) Brandt of Sanborn, IA; four sisters-in-law, Fern Getting of Sioux Falls, SD, Dorothy Tesch of Paullina, IA, Ruth Brandt and Ilene Brandt both of Sanborn, IA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arlin; son, Randy in 1978; an infant granddaughter, three brothers: Alvin, Norman and Marvin Getting; one sister, Joyce Stewart.
