Obituary of Lavonne Bracker

LaVonne Anna (Stegemann) Bracker, the daughter of Emil and Katherine (Schmidt) Stegemann was born on May 15, 1927 in Rock Valley, IA. She lived in Rock Rapids for six years then moved with her family to Sibley, IA, where she spent the rest of her youth. LaVonne attended the Sibley Public School and graduated from Sibley High School in 1945. She went on to further her education at the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, MN earning an RN Degree. On June 2, 1950, LaVonne was united in marriage to Donald Bracker, in Sibley, IA. To this union three children were born: Sue, Tom and Todd. Following their marriage the couple resided in Sibley for five years and then moved to Melvin in 1955. During her nursing career, LaVonne worked at the Osceola Community Hospital, in the Sibley Public School as the School Nurse and at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn. LaVonne spent a short time at the Prairie View Nursing Home and passed away there on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the age of 86. LaVonne was a member of the American Lutheran Church where she served on several committees and enjoyed the church activities. She was also a member of the Melvin American Legion Auxiliary for 55 years. Some of her hobbies and special interests included fishing trips to Northern Minnesota with Don, and time spent in Texas during the winter. Other interests included playing cards, dancing, knitting, crocheting and sewing. She was always grateful for the good friends in her life. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Sue Hurd, of Urbandale, IA; four grandchildren: Aaron, Thomas and Nathan Hurd, Melissa Cardwell three great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don in 1999, and her sons: Todd Bracker in 1982, Thomas Bracker in 2011 and brother Loren Stegemann in 2013. In loving memory of LaVonne A.
