Obituary of Leonard Anderson

Leonard Alfred Anderson, son of Albert and Clara (Carlsen) Anderson, was born at Dunnell, MN on April 18, 1928. He spent his childhood years in the Ceylon, MN area and attended school there, graduating from Ceylon High School in 1946. After graduation, Leonard helped his parents for a short time on the family farm, and then enlisted in the U.S. Marines. He was stationed in Bremerton, WA, serving from 1946 to 1948.
Following his military discharge, Leonard returned to work on the farm for a summer. On June 1, 1952, he married Darlene Detert at Ceylon. He furthered his education at North Dakota State, and Mankato State, graduating with a BS. He also attended the University of South Dakota, and University of Missouri, majoring in Physics, Chemistry and Math. An ad for a teaching position in the Des Moines Register brought Leonard and Darlene to Sanborn, IA where he taught Junior and Senior High for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, and being outdoors, fishing or gardening. He was a member of the American Legion and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sanborn. Leonard passed away at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, IA, on March 6, 2013 at the age of 84.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Darlene; two daughters: Debra Kae (Eldon) Peterson of Alta, IA, and Jan Marie (fiancé, Don Thom) Anderson of Ceylon, MN; two brothers: Curtis Anderson and Lyle (Marion) Anderson, all of Ceylon, MN; two sisters; Luella (Ted) Fisher of Fairmont, MN and Myrtle (Harold) Qualley of Sherburn, MN; many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister-in-law, Wilma Anderson; one nephew, Tom Anderson; one niece, Mary Rosbach; aunts, uncles, and many close friends.
