Obituary of Dorene Gonnerman

Dorene Ann (Stoterau) Gonnerman, the daughter of Albert and Leola (Taylor) Stoterau was born on April 16, 1928, in Hartley, IA. She lived her youth in the Hartley area and graduated from the Hartley High School. She was united in marriage to Gerald Gonnerman on May 18, 1946 at Sioux Falls, SD. To this union four children were born; Gary, Vicki, Darlene and Marla. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Hartley area for many years. Dorene also worked at the National Food Store in Hartley. The couple purchased Neeble’s Dance Land, also in Hartley, and operated it for five years. They later moved to Milford, IA, where Dorene worked in food service for 14 years at the Crescent Beach Resort. Gerald, passed away on January 21, 1993. and Dorene retired that same year. On July 1, 1993 Dorene was united in marriage to Perry Henline. The couple relocated to Apache Junction, AZ in 1999. Perry passed away there in December 2004. Dorene continued to reside in Apache Junction until her death on December 14, 2012. Dorene was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ of Hartley, as well as the American Legion Auxilliary, the VFW Auxilliary and the Hartley Hospital Auxilliary. She dearly loved spending time with friends and family and enjoyed crafting crochet pieces or cross-stitch pictures to share with them. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Dr. Gary (Kathy) Gonnerman of Humboldt, IA; three daughters: Vicki Groen and her husband, Mike of Apache Junction, AZ, Darlene Pfingsten of Sioux City, IA and Marla (Curt) Pyle of Hartley, IA; step-children, Kerry (Vicki) Henline and Diane Hofmeyer all of Pennsacola, FL; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Dorene was preceded in death by her husbands, Gerald Gonnerman and Perry Henline; her parents; her brother, Lyle; and a step-daughter, Debbie.
