Obituary of Peter Flick

Peter Junior Flick, the son of Peter and Mary (Fjeld) Flick, was born in Primghar, Iowa on October 11, 1929. His childhood years were spent in the Paullina and Primghar areas, and he graduated from Primghar High School in 1948. On July 29, 1951, Pete was united in marriage to Verlene Glaser in Hartley, Iowa. They began their married life in Primghar where Pete worked at Warnke Lumberyard and later Anderson Hatchery. In 1957, they began farming near Primghar. In 1963, the family moved to Verlene's parents' farm southwest of Hartley where they spent the majority of their farm life. Their family included four children—Julie, Denise, Darwin and Jill. In the fall of 1983, they retired from farming and moved into Hartley. When they weren't farming, they enjoyed spending time at Lake Okoboji, and spent 18 winters as snowbirds in Mesa, Arizona. Pete's hobbies were playing cards, fishing, and woodworking. He spent many hours crafting special keepsakes for his family. He was a very social person, and loved talking to people. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Primghar. He peacefully left this life on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, having reached the age of 83. Pete is survived by his wife of 61 years, Verlene; his children and their families: Julie (Tim) O'Brien of Aurora, CO, Denise (Rodell) Grosz of Rapid City, SD, Darwin (Sandra) Flick of Primghar, IA, and Jill (Gary) Purdy of Kearney, NE; eight grandchildren; one brother, Marlin (Velma) Flick, and one sister, Kathleen (Bert) DeRidder, all of Primghar; other relatives and friends.
