Obituary of Louise DeVries

Grace "Louise" (Prins) DeVries, the daughter of John and Henrietta "Lucy" (Colsman) Prins, was born in Sioux Center, IA on April 21, 1922. Her childhood years were spent in Sanborn, IA, where she received her early education. She went on to receive a certificate from Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, IA. She was united in marriage to Fred Korthals on October 8, 1947. The couple was blessed with two sons, David and Larry. Fred passed away on August 22, 1956. Louise later married Garrett DeVries on March 16th, 1964. They spent their married years in Sanborn. Garret passed away on April 16, 2004. Louise continued living in Sanborn until 2011 when she went to Mesa, AZ, to be closer to her family. She passed away at her son's home in Mesa on Saturday, November 3, 2012, at age 90. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Fred and Garrett, her son, David; her siblings John, Berdeda and Julia. Louise loved gardening and fresh flowers. She enjoyed playing cards with her longtime friends, shopping, going out to dinner, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed going to church and playing her piano. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sanborn. She will be dearly miss by her son, Larry Korthals and his wife, Paula of Mesa, AZ; daughter-in-law, Donna Korthals of Baxter Springs, KS; eight grandchildren: Deanna, Danielle, Rachel, Kari, Shelsea, Greyson, Elias and Lakota; one brother, Conrad Prins and his wife, Gladys of Sanborn; other relatives and friends.
