Obituary of Jay Raymond

Memorial Tribute Jay Russell Raymond, the son of Ross and Amy (Hakeman) Raymond, was born on a farm 2 ½ miles east of Sanborn, Iowa on April 6, 1925. He attended Lincoln #9 Country School, located on Highway 18 across from the Raymond farm. He graduated from Sanborn Public School in 1942. He was united in marriage to Doris C. Wright on December 19, 1944 at the Methodist Church in Sibley, Iowa. Jay spent his entire life in Sanborn, a town he loved. Jay farmed the Raymond Farm for 22 years. In 1969, he left the farm and moved into Sanborn where he drove truck full-time for Dan Dugan and others, until retiring in March 1987. Jay passed away at his home on Sunday, September 23, 2012 with his family by his side. Jay is survived by his children: Ace and Pat Raymond of Elk River, MN; Roccy and Diann Raymond of Birchwood, WI; Todd Raymond, Rex and Debbie Raymond all of Sanborn; and Anne and Steve Jaycox of Waseca, MN; 15 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Ruth Glazier, Joyce Petrich, and Harriett Warnke; other relatives and a host of friends. He is also survived by Marjorie Gross, his lifetime friend and special companion for the past ten years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Doris; his parents; sisters: Faye Huibregtse and Fern Baldwin; brothers: Merton and Lee Raymond. Jay attended St. Andrews United Methodist Church of Sanborn, and was on the Sanborn Elevator Board from 1962-1968. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and traveling. He especially enjoyed cards with his buddies after retirement. His friendly wave, sparkly eyes, and great smile will be missed by all his family and friends. In loving memory of Jay R.
