Obituary of Gladys McCroskey
Please share a memory of Gladys to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gladys Marie (Snider) McCroskey, the daughter of Edwin and Ida (Hemming) Snider was born on April 16, 1915, in May City, IA. She lived out her childhood in the May City area, and attended country school there. Following her school years Gladie helped her mother at her mother’s nursing home.
She was united in marriage to Virgil McCroskey in Nashville, TN and lived there before returning to Hartley. The couple went into the electric business and ran it in Hartley in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Gladie also helped her mother in her nursing home until she went independently into her own business known as the “We Care Haven” until October 1, 1988 when she sold it to the Community Memorial Hospital. She was a nurse at heart and was a LPN for over 40 years and always enjoyed taking care of people. Gladie entered the Community Memorial Health Center in September of 2008 and passed away there on July 30, 2012 at the age of 97.
Gladie was a charter member of the TTT Club of Hartley, was also involved with Red Hats Club and the order of the Eastern Star. Throughout the years, Gladie was very involved with the United Methodist Church. She loved to go for rides, out to eat with friends, play cards, bowling, golf and spending time at Lake Okoboji. She was always ready to laugh with you even if she had heard the “same joke” a million times before.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters: Lucille Rogers and Luva Montgomery; and two brothers: Glen and Arlo Snider.
Left to cherish her memory are two brothers: Lester Snider and his wife, Dorothy, of Spirit Lake, IA, and Paul Snider and his wife Irene of Overland Park, KS; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
