Obituary of Emery Remmers

Emery (Fat) Remmers, the son of Ludwig (Lou) and Grace (Olinger) (Hindt) Remmers, was born at Melvin, Iowa, on June 22, 1916. He lived his youth in Melvin and attended Melvin Community School. Emery married Bertha Arends in January of 1938. They were married for 63 years. Emery farmed near Sanborn, Iowa, for 10 years, then returned to the Melvin area where he continued his stewardship of the land until he retired to Sheldon in 1982. Since 2011, he resided at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn. He passed away there on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, reaching the age of 96 years, 18 days. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers and six sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Remmers of Lowell, AR, and Sandy Remmers Green of Prescott, AZ; one grandson, Michael and three great-grandchildren, James, Rebecca and Daniel, all of Lowell, AR; a brother, Wilbur of Minneapolis, MN. Emery was a member of the Melvin United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening and being the neighborhood babysitter. Emery was generous to many people throughout his life.
