Obituary of Merlyn Richter

Merlyn Edwin Richter the son of Edwin and Lavina (Edwoldt) Richter was born at Granville, IA on December 6, 1937. He spent his youth living on a farm near Granville and attended school in Germantown and Paullina. On October 4, 1964 Merlyn was united in marriage to Joyce Petersen at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon, IA and to this union three sons were born; Kevin, Gary and Brian. Following their marriage they made their home in several towns including Cherokee, Germantown, Sutherland, Granville and then Hartley. During his working years Merlyn was employed in a number of different jobs which included; construction, truck driving, farm hand and the meat packing industry. Merlyn passed away at Prairie View Nursing Home on February 29, 2012. Merlyn’s special interests included listening to and collecting old time music and dancing. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley. Merlyn is survived by his wife Joyce; three sons; Kevin (Janet) Richter of Hospers, IA, Gary (Jeanna) Richter of Hartley, IA, and Brian (Hope) Richter of Forreston, IL; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother Marlyn Richter of Granville, IA; one sister Marlys Richter of Hospers, IA; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by both parents; a brother Virgil Richter and a sister-in-law Naomi Richter.
