Obituary of Joyce West

Joyce Rose (Conner) West, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Jansen) Conner, was born on March 8, 1923, in Park Rapids, MN. Her childhood years were spent in Minnesota, where she attended the local schools. She later moved to Iowa. On April 21, 1949, she was united in marriage to Robert West at Royal, IA. In the early years of their marriage, Bob and Joyce were engaged in farming in the Hartley and Melvin, IA, and Park Rapids, MN areas. After they quit farming, they worked together as custodians for the Estherville, IA school district. Joyce also worked in a variety store for 11 years. After moving back to Hartley, she worked at the Mann Wing Nursing Home. The couple moved to the Prairie View Campus in Sanborn, IA in 2005. Bob passed away there on June 10, 2008. Joyce was reunited with him on September 9, 2011, having reached the age of 88. She was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Sanborn. She enjoyed flowers, sewing, playing BINGO and cards. Preceding her in death was her husband, her parents, and a sister, Belle Pfeifer. Left to cherish her memory are two sisters, Lois Schwien of Hartley, and Darlene Graves of Waupaca, WI; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Peters of Hartley; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
