Obituary of Dorothy Celak

Dorothy Darlene (Menning) Celak, the daughter of William and Lillie (Meier) Menning, was born on October 1, 1925, on a farm outside of Sanborn, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Sanborn. She attended the local schools, graduating from Sanborn Public High School in 1942. Following graduation, Dorothy moved to Omaha, NE. She was doing office work when she met her future husband, Henry Celak. The two were united in marriage in May of 1952. They moved to California where Dorothy worked until their daughter, Nancy was born. She then took care of her family and household. Every year the family made a trip back to Iowa to visit. They eventually returned to Iowa and to Sanborn. Dorothy passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior at the Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn on August 11, 2011, at the age of 85. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting. She generously shared her creations with others. She also loved reading and playing games. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sanborn. Among those preceding her in death were her parents and four brothers-in-law. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy and her husband, Larry Field of Vail, AZ; three sisters, Marjorie Paulsen, Ruth Klever, and Glenda Visser, all of Sanborn; one brother, Richard and his wife, Judy Menning of Farmington, NM; other relatives and friends.
