Jessie Gertrude (Kuypers) Postma, the daughter of Andrew and Gertie (Bergsma) Kuypers, was born in the Roseland area of Chicago, IL, on November 21, 1923. She grew up in the Chicago area and graduated from Fenger High School in Chicago. Upon graduating from High School she worked in the Sherwin Williams office in Chicago. On December 10, 1953, she was united in marriage to James Postma in Chicago. They moved to the Postma family farm northeast of Sanborn, IA, and raised their four daughters, Susan, Letty, Carol and Sandra. Jessie and Jim moved to Sanborn when he retired from farming in 1978. In the Spring of 2010, Jim and Jessie moved to the Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn. Jim passed away there on July 19, 2010, and Jessie joined him on December 12, 2010, having reached the age of 87 years, 21 days. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sanborn, where she taught Sunday school and was an active member of the Women’s Guild. She was a sponsor for the Girl’s League and a charter member of the Friendly 12 Club. Her hobbies included sewing—she spent many hours making clothes for her daughters. She also enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, reading, knitting, quilting, entertaining, gardening and baking. Jessie had a true servant’s heart and was always doing things for others by providing meals and lifting others in prayer. She spent many days caring for her grandchildren. She liked to cheer for the Chicago Cubs. Jessie is survived by her four daughters: Susan (Curt) Vanden Hull of Papillion, NE, Letty (Bryon) Storm of Sheldon, IA, Carol (Jim) Bydlon of Sanborn, IA, and Sandra (William) Kemner of Brandon, SD; eight grandchildren: Lynae Vanden Hull of Columbia, SC, Kevin Vanden Hull, of Papillion, NE, Nicolette Bracy of Sanborn, IA, Sarah Gerhard of Fort Myers, FL, Dustin and Laura Kemner of Brandon, SD, and Grace Bydlon of Sanborn, IA; a sister-in-law, Winona Kuypers of Downers Grove, IL; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
